SALON in Amsterdam
Against the backdrop of Manifesta 9 in Genk and FASHIONCLASH 2012 in Maastricht, Marres and NAiM/Bureau Europa have invited SALON/ to realize a project in Maastricht.
SALON/ is an initiative of Gijs Stork, Manon Schaap and Cathal McKee, which focuses on the multidisciplinary context in which designers and artists work nowadays. A context that not only transcends the boundaries of disciplines, but also the walls of the museum, gallery or shop. Their approach leads to striking presentations on equally special locations. The specific interest in the physical, if not traditional crafted quality of the object or design often forms the link between the different creative disciplines. With each new edition, SALON/ aspires to connect the existing network to new participants; this time to a creative network in Maastricht and the Euregion. Far beyond traditional oppositions as between center and periphery, craft and concept, fashion and art, and commerce and autonomy, the project primarily addresses how new generations of artists and designers work (together) and give expression to their ideas. During SALON/Maastricht, the work of some fifty artists will be presented at various locations in the city.
